Young Writers @ Expressions (ECA)
Geared towards talented English students, this project offers students an opportunity to write stories, poems and other creative pieces for Expressions, the school literary magazine. Students read model texts in different genres and learn how to write pieces of their own. Texts will include both Elephant Community Press publications and classic children’s stories read by students around the world. Students will learn to examine model texts closely and look at the techniques used by real writers.
As they draft and revise their pieces, students will get exposure to a wide range of creative writing tasks and skills and will then select one piece to revise and polish for sharing with others in the school creative magazine. The teacher will provide feedback on each student’s writing, and during the revision and editing process, the teacher will also review common grammar and usage errors with the students and help them develop strategies for checking their own work.
